Food for Students Personally Tasted

On April 11, Juche 36(1947) President Kim Il Sung visited Kim Il Sung University.

Guided by a leading official of the university, he looked around different places of the university and taught in detail how to improve the work of the university. Then, he dropped in at the dining hall.

Several students who were having lunching there were so surprised to see President

Kim Il Sung that they were at a loss what to do.

President Kim Il Sung kindly asked them to sit and continue having lunch. He looked round the interior of the dining hall, and then, went to the table at which the students were having lunch and unceremoniously sat beside a girl student, saying that he would also have lunch together with them.

The girl went and ordered boiled rice and soup for him, but could not move, fascinated by the informal personality of President Kim Il Sung.

When President Kim Il Sung saw her hesitating in nervousness, he urged her to bring the food to him.

When she obligingly brought the food to him, he took a spoon and chopsticks and tasted the soup. Then, looking at the officials of the university, he noted that it tasted too salty and taught them that radish soup would be delicious when an appropriate amount of salt was put to it.

As if worrying about his real children, he stroked the back of the student beside him and said: Now the country has difficult food situation, but why can’t we make tasty soup for students? I will have more bean paste and oil provided to the university, so make delicious soup for them.

The officials of the university felt so remorseful that they could not raise their heads.

After a while, he taught to keep the dining hall tidy culturally and hygienically as befitting the hall for students and asked the chef how many students had meals there.

At her answer, he said that the hall was too small for the number of students and instructed to the officials to enlarge the hall as the number of students would increase in the new academic year.

The leading officials of the university had a strong impact from the boundlessly lofty personality of President

Kim Il Sung who cared so much to provide better living conditions to students.
