Veteran Scientist Devotes His Patriotic Soul to Reforestation
Among the educators who devote their whole life to scientific research for development of the country’s forestry is DSc and Associate Prof. Kim Yun Gwon, an academic adviser at the postgraduate school of Kanggye University of Agriculture and Forestry.
He sent 14,000 useful trees of 11 species, including the long-cone spruce which he had acclimatized through the scores of years of intensive study, to the arboretum of Kumsusan Palace of the Sun and Jangjasan Revolutionary Site. He systemized the research results of his 20-odd-year-long study on long-cone spruce and made public his doctorate dissertation “Study on Some Biological Characteristics of Long-cone Spruce and Its Planting Method”, thus receiving the doctorate degree in forestry on March 20, 2015.
He authored and made public over 40 essays on long-cone spruce, hazel tree, schizandra chinensis, white cherry tree and other species of high economic value, thus making a great contribution to afforestation of the green areas and important historic sites in Jagang Province. For his lofty spiritual world and patriotic devotion, he was listed as one of the top scientists and technicians in 2020 and was honoured with the title of socialist patriotic meritorious worker.
