The 7-storeyed Pagoda originally stood in the premise of Hyonhwa Temple, but it is now preserved in Koryo Museum.

According to a historical record, it was set up in 1020.

It has one tier of platform, 7 stories of pagoda body and a top cover.

It is a relatively big pagoda of Koryo Dynasty with 8.64 m of its total height and 3.9 m of the one-side length of its platform.

There are 3 pillars on each side of the platform, and 5 tiers of delicately ground stones of brick shape are piled up in the spaces between them, and finally, a thick cover stone is put on top. This kind of pagoda platform is rare.

It is unique that the eaves support and corner pillars are not right-angled but curved like a wave.

From the 1st to the 7th tiers of the pagoda, each piece of stone is etched with Buddha. This shows a very tested and fine sculptural art.

The 7-storeyed Pagoda at Hyonhwa Temple is big with its burly yet detailed and refined architecture and strict balance between the whole and the parts.

This pagoda is a valuable national treasure which shows our ancestors’ high pagoda architecture and course of its development.
