At the 13th graduation ceremony of the Distance Education Faculty, Pyongyang University of Mechanical Engineering, one of the graduates drew the attention of people.

All the participants in the ceremony were deeply moved by Kim Yong Ho, a disabled honored soldier of Special Class, who received the diploma amidst their warm congratulation and made a speech on half of the graduates.

Though demobilized, he had tried hard to do laudable deeds for the society and collective, without loosening the posture he assumed in his military service.

As he had had deep knowledge about electric engineering and machinery, the officials of the faculty had thought that they should teach him modern science and technology so that he could keep the flower of revolution in full bloom.

Therefore, upon consultation with the university Party committee, Song Myong Chol, the dean, and other members of the faculty teaching staff had called on Kim Yong Ho.

He had not been able to hold back surging emotion when they had encouraged him to be enrolled in the Distance Education Faculty of the university so that he could do more work by the strength of knowledge.

Actually, he had long wanted to engage himself in the distance education system to learn more things, but had been unable to make the decision because of his health condition.

Now he had felt immensely grateful to the educators of the university who had invited him to the university and added vitality to him, and to the socialist educational system defended by them.

Since then on, he had exerted himself to learning with confidence, and the officials and teaching staff of the faculty had paid profound attention to his study.

With the assistance from the educators of the university, he had made strenuous efforts to acquire more knowledge in his major, in spite of his bad health.

Unfortunately, his health had got worse occasionally.

He had been hospitalized several times during his university days.

Whenever he had been in hospital, the teaching staff of the faculty had visited him with the tonics they had prepared with sincerity and given him encouragement. They had also kindly helped him do learning assignments left undone.

Thanks to the devotion of the officials and teaching staff of the faculty, he had been able to finish the distance course of the university with honor.

On the day of graduation, dropping tears of gratitude to the beloved Workers’ Party of Korea for the all-people study system it had established so that he could study to his heart’s content under its boundlessly warm care.

The diploma received by a disabled honored soldier is, indeed, an epitome of the advantage of the socialist system under which everyone studies to his/her heart’s content and brings hope into brilliant reality, and of the happiness of all Korean people who live in harmony helping and leading each other under the warm care of the maternal Party.
