Ri Yu Jin won the Prize of ‘Best Popularity’ in the 12th Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students

Ri Yu Jin(female, aged 16), a Grade 3 student of the Chinese Course, Pyongyang Foreign Languages School, Pyongyang University of Foreign Studies, together with her instructor, Pak Yong Ok(female, aged 38), a lecturer of the Chinese Department, Pyongyang Foreign Languages School, PUFS, took part in the 12th Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students held in Zhengzhou, Henan Province from October 18 to November 1, 2019. In the contest with 125 entries from 104 countries, she demonstrated her high level of proficiency in Chinese to win the 2nd Prize and the Prize of ‘Best Popularity’, thus adding glory to her motherland.

The competition was held for 15 days in 4 stages.

When Ri Yu Jin delivered a congratulatory speech on behalf of the participants to the competition at the opening ceremony, many of the participants and the teachers came to meet with the teacher Pak Yong Ok asking in wonder whether she really is Korean, whether her parents are Chinese-Korean, how a Korean could speak Chinese so naturally just like a Chinese and that they couldn’t tell that it is a foreigner speaking in Chinese if they’d closed their eyes and unanimously said that they have great expectations from her in this competition.

The 1st stage competition was divided into different categories of written test, eloquence test, answering to supplementary questions and special skills and Ri Yu Jin showed her high proficiency in Chinese in her written test getting the highest score among the participants.

In the eloquence contest, she fully delivered her beautiful dream to contribute to the development of friendly relationship between the DPRK and PRC with her Chinese skills in her standard and correct Chinese pronunciation, accent and intonation thus receiving unsparing compliments from the participants, teachers and the judges and her answers to the supplementary questions were so impeccable that the entire audience was awe-struck.

Teachers from other countries came to meet with Ri Yu Jin’s teacher Pak Yong Ok showing their thumbs saying that they want to learn the education method of the DPRK and how to train such excellent students and begged her to teach the secret behind it.

Ri Yu Jin who went into the 2nd stage with the highest score amazed other students with her profound knowledge on history, culture, geography and literature of China and got the highest score in the 2nd stage as well to go into the 3rd stage and won the Prize of “Best Popularity”, thus displaying to the whole world the proud features of a Korean student who is fully cultivating her talent under the warm love of Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un.
